During the long break we were in our classroom. I was feeling very badly. My friend John told our teacher and she sent me home.
D: Teacher : Peter, you are looking very pale today. What´s the matter with you?
Peter : I have a splitting headache and a bad cough. I think I have a temperature, too.
Teacher : Let me see. Yes, you have got a temperature. You have to go to the health centre.
Peter: I´d rather go home. Mother is at home today.
Teacher: All right. John will go with you.
At home I took my clothes off, put on my pyjamas and went to bed. I had a terrible headache, a bad cough and pains in my legs and arms. Mother put the thermometer under my arm and took my temperature. It was 39. I got a cup of hot tea with lemon juice and had to stay in bed and keep warm.
D: Peter: Have I got temperature, mother?
Mother : Yes, you have - more than 39 degrees.
Peter : Am I to go to the doctor? *
Mother: Oh no, you must stay in bed. You are too ill to go to the health centre. 1*11 call the doctor in. Now - drink your tea and rest.

Mother had to call the doctor in. She rang up the health centre and asked the doctor to come and see me. The nurse took down our address. She said: "The doctor will come at about 2 o´clock."
D: Nurse: Health centre.
Mother: Ann Nováková speaking. Good morning, nurse. My son hasn´t been feeling well since this morning. Can the doctor come to see him?
Nurse: What s the matter with him?
Mother: He has got a high temperature, a headache and a bad cough. He is feeling pains all over his body.
Nurse : Keep him in bed. The doctor will come to see him in the afternoon. Can I have your address, please.
The doctor examined me. He asked mother for a spoon and told me to open my mouth wide and say: ninety-nine. And: "Let me feel your pulse." Then I had to take my pyjama top off and he listened to my heart and lungs. I had pneumonia and was sent to the hospital.
D: Doctor: Peter, open your mouth wide, say: Ninety-nine. Take off your pyjama top. I´ll listen to your heart and lungs. Do you feel pains here?
Peter: Yes, I do, doctor. Shall I have to stay in bed for long?
Doctor: You have pneumonia. I must send you to the hospital. Don t worry - you will be soon all right again.

The doctor called for the ambulance. They came soon. They put me into the car. Mother went with us, carrying a small suit-case with my things.
D: Mother: Which hospital will we go to? The ambulance attendant: To the Children´s Hospital.
Mother: May I go with you?
The man: Of course, you may. You can sit in the back.
It was not pleasant in the hospital. I wasn't feeling well during the first two days. I had a high temperature, my whole body ached (I had pains all over my body), they gave me injections.
But soon it was all over. My temperature dropped, the pains stopped - I was better. There were many other children in the hospital, and we got on very well together.
D: Peter to the boy in the next bed: This is my first time in hospital. What about you?
The other boy: I was in hospital when I was in the fifth class. I had rheumatism. Then I was in a spa - that was fine.
) I stayed in the hospital for two weeks. Then the doctor examined me once more and sent me home. But I had to stay at home for another two weeks before going back to school.
D: Doctor: Well, Peter, how are you feeling today?
Peter: Thanks, doctor. I´m all right again.
Doctor: You certainly must be glad to be going home. But if you don t want to come back again, you must stay at home for another two weeks. And no sports for six weeks, remember that.
I missed my classmates very much and was glad to return to school and see them all again.
D: Peter ‘classmate: Here are you at last, Peter.
Peter: Hallo, everybody! What´s the news?
Peter´s classmate: We are going for a trip on Saturday.
Peter: I´m afraid, I can't go with you.
Classmate: Why not? You´ll enjoy it!
Peter: I'm still weak after pneumonia. I must be careful.
Classmate: What a pity!
