A trip to the countryside
(K) It is Sunday morning. The Browns want to go for a ride to the country. They have a new car and the weather is so fine. You can see them sitting at the table. They are looking at a map.
(R) Mrs. Brown: Let\'s ride along the river and then on to the castle. Mr. Brown: We can\'t go that way. I know the road. It\'s very bad. Dick: Let\'s go to the dam first, Dad. Mr. Brown: That\'s a good idea. In the morning we can bathe and in the afternoon we can go and see the castle.
(K) Now look at the map. You can see a lot of things in it; towns and villages, field and woods, roads, rivers and lakes. Can you see the dam? Can you see the castle on a little hill? The Browns want to ride to the dam and then on to the castle. But first they must find how to get there. Which way is the shortest? Which road is the best?
(R) No comment
(K) The Browns are ready to start. The weather is lovely. The Sun is shining and the sky is blue. But it is too hot and one never knows. Mrs. Brown is bringing a raincoat and an umbrella. Mr Brown and Dick are laughing. But he who laughs last laughs best. Let us wait and see.
(R) Mr. Brown: Oh dear! Why are you bringing the raincoat and the umbrella? Mrs. Brown: It\'s too hot and it may rain in the afternoon. One never, knows. Dick: But, Mum, there aren\'t, any clouds in the sky. Mrs. Brown: Just wait and see. Mr. Brown: Well, let\'s start. I\'m looking forward to a swim.
(K) It is too hot in the car. The Browns must stop and get out of the car for a while. How nice it is to be in the country The fields are green and yellow. The trees are full of fruit. Dick and Spot are very happy. But Mrs. Brown is looking at the sky. There are some clouds in it. Is it going to rain or not?
(R) Mrs. Brown: Look at the sky. Can\'t you see those black clouds? It\'s going to rain, I\'m afraid. Mr. Brown: I don\'t think, so. Dick: Look, Mum. What lovely apples! May I have one? Mrs. Brown: No, you can\'t. But wait a moment, I\'m going to buy some on our way. Mr. Brown: Well, we must ride on. Come and get into the car.

But the weather is getting worse. There are dark clouds in the sky. Mr. Brown is taking the last snap. They all must dress in a hurry. A storm is coming. It is going to rain in a few minutes.

(R) Mr. Brown: Hurry up, everybody, let\'s get to that house over there. Mrs. Brown: Oh dear! I can\'t run so quickly. Dick: Look, Dad, Spot is the\' first. Mr. Brown: Of course he is. He\'s afraid of the storm.
(K) After rain comes sunshine. The storm is over and the Browns are in a wood. Can you see the mushrooms? Mr. Brown is picking them. He likes mushrooming very much. Mrs. Brown is picking strawberries. There are lots of them everywhere. Dick is in the tree and Spot is running about. They are all very happy.

(K) This time we can see the \'Browns on a tower. They are looking down at the castle. How lovely it looks! They can see the park and the fountain. Everything looks so small. But where is Spot? Can you see him? I cannot.
(R) Mrs. Brown: What a lovely view! Dick: Can you see those mountains over there, Dad? Are they very far? Mr. Brown: They are a long way from here. But one day we can go there too.
